The creation of Audi dates back exactly 100 years. By the end of the 18th century, there were more than 30 automobile manufacturers in Germany. Like other car engineers, August Horsch, the founder of Audi, was not content to work for someone else. He wanted to have a brand named after him. In 1899, he founded Augost Horch & CIE, a car factory bearing his name on the Rhine, in what is known as the first year of Audi. In 1901, he began to make his own cars. Within the next eight short years, his car factory not only became a large, but also became a joint stock company. By the early 1930s, Horsch had more than 44 percent of the German luxury car market for 4 liters or more, with no fewer than 10 brands.
