Volkswagen is an automobile manufacturing company headquartered in Wolfsburg, Germany, and a core enterprise of the Volkswagen Group, one of the world's four largest automobile manufacturers. In 2019, it ranked 9th in the Fortune Global 500.
Volks means "national" in German, Wagen means "car" in German, and the full name means "national car", so it is often abbreviated as "VW". In Taiwan, it is translated as Volkswagen, in Hong Kong, Macao, and mainland China, it is translated as Volkswagen or Volkswagen. The entire automobile group produced and sold more than 9.07 million vehicles in 2012, and the Volkswagen brand exceeded 5.74 million vehicles.
On November 14, 2013, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine informed that Volkswagen (China) Sales Co., Ltd., FAW-Volkswagen Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd. decided to recall some Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda cars, a total of 640,309 (landed). In October 2014, FAW-Volkswagen once again announced the recall of some new Sagitars and Beetles.
The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine issued a notice stating that Volkswagen recalled 78,000 imported cars in China due to defects in the steering columns of the vehicles. The recalled models include some imported 2009-2014 Tuwei, Yiou, Scirocco, Scirocco R, Crossover Golf, Golf Touring Edition, Golf R, Magotan wagon, Magotan all-road vehicle, CC and Sharan car. On March 15, 2018, CCTV's 3.15 party revealed that the Volkswagen Touareg had a water ingress failure and could not start it. On August 25, 2018, Volkswagen officially announced that it will independently launch the electric "We Share" car sharing service. The car-sharing service was first launched in Berlin, Germany in spring 2019. In December 2018, the "Top 500 World Brands 2018" compiled by the World Brand Lab was announced, ranking 39th. In October 2019, Interbrand ranked 40th in the Top 100 Global Brands list.
